Japanese artist Eugene Kangawa is teaming up with ISSEY MIYAKE A-POC ABLE for a brand new collaboration launching this October during Art Basel Paris. This project culminates a three-year creative dialogue with designer Yoshiyuki Miyamae and his team.

Inspired by Kangawa’s “Light and shadow inside me” series, which uses photograms to capture gradients, the collaboration has resulted in a revolutionary “bit-level” textile. This fabric achieves subtle gradations from black to white using only weaving techniques, completely eliminating the need for dyes or multiple thread colours.

The Paris exhibition, designed by acclaimed architect Tsuyoshi Tane, will present the new textile alongside Kangawa’s original artworks, test pieces, and creative tools. This immersive experience will also feature guided tours and hands-on workshops, giving visitors a deeper understanding of the innovative process. After its debut in Paris, the project will travel to Tokyo and Osaka, offering a unique opportunity to witness the convergence of Kangawa’s artistic vision and ISSEY MIYAKE A-POC ABLE’s pioneering textile technology.
